MEXICO ? Established in 1821 and based upon the French tricolor, the flag of Mexico consists of three equally sized vertical stripes; a single white stripe representing religion, flanked by a green stripe on the left symbolizing hope, and a red one on the right representing unity. Added when the flag was officially adopted in 1968, is the current Mexican national coat of arms, centered in the single white stripe. The central emblem is the Mexican coat of arms, based on the Aztec symbol for Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City), the center of the Aztec empire.
