Description
SPAIN – This flag consists of three horizontal stripes ? a red stripe at both the top and bottom, with a yellow stripe at the center. Toward the left and centered in the yellow stripe is nation?s coat of arms, which is made up of a crowned shield, quartered (each quarter displaying the badges of original Spanish kingdoms) and flanked by crowned pillars representing Gibraltar and Cueta. Wrapped around the pillars is a red scroll with the motto ?Plus Ultra? which’ translates to ?there is more beyond?. This flag was formally adopted in 1981.
